adj instead of adv? Sun Aug 10, 2008 19:09 pm  adj instead of adv?

Hi, please have a look at this:

He had not been to Gilly very often during the nine months since he arrived on Drogheda, but his position as Mary Carson's brother and heir apparent meant that he had been treated very hospitably whenever he had been in town, and that his face was well-remembered

=> why "apparent" and not "apparently"?

Thank you so much.
Nessie.

Hi Nessie

The word 'apparent' refers to the noun 'heir'.
