Hi Torsten
I think your understanding of "coin a phrase" must be quite different from mine. . _________________ "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." ~ Abraham Lincoln |

Usually, you falter on the way. If your way "falters", it's a little like saying "your path stumbles": possible as an example of transference, but not in general use.

Hi MrP and Amy,
Thanks a lot for answering my question. Amy, I agree with you -- U2 didn't coin a new phrase, it's rather an "example of transference" as MrP suggested. Regards, Torsten

Here's another usage in Mariah Carey's song Can't take that away.
| Quote: |
They can say, anything they want to say, try to bring me down, But I will not allow anyone to succeed hanging clouds over me, And they can try hard to make me feel that I, don't matter at all, But I refuse to falter in what I believe or loose faith in my dreams. |

| Yes, I think that would be the more usual usage. |
