Hi everyone,

I am Bonnie, 25 years old, from the Universe :) just a little joke of mine. Well, at present I work as a website promoter, but my actual "diploma profession" is interpreter/translator: English, German, French. Well, I am here to learn something new, I would to contribute also but I think I have no right to do it 'cause I am not a native English speaker.

I am also a musician, rock mostly, guitar, piano, clarinet, keyboards. And also a part-time journalist. I like Rowan Atkinson sketches :) Also travelling, meeting new people, art, photography, cinema. I dream either to play on stage with Sir Paul McCartney or....write music reviews 'cause I am completely into music.

So that's the general info about me, if you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

Good luck to everyone!
Bonnie

Hi Bonnie,

Welcome to english-test.net! I'm very glad you have joined our forum and the first question I'd like to ask you is this: How did you learn English? It would be great if you could share some of your learning experiences with our other forum members.

Many thanks,
Torsten

Hi Torsten!

thanks for welcoming me :) well, the way I learned english can become the best teaching method I guess :) I was 5-6 years old (don't remember exactly) when I heard the Beatles for the first time. My mom told me later that my eyes were wide open and I begged her (being a kid) to buy their tape. She bought and since then I listened to this tape all days long, I started to sing after them, and being so keen on their music, I wanted to know what they sang about. My mother gave me my first grammar book, I studied it with great enthusiasm and when I entered the first grade at school, I could speak english quite well already. Actually I have been into english all my life. I like everything about UK, I listen to the BBC news only. So, in my opinion, the best teaching method (e.g. individual classes) is to find a person's I call it "ignition spark" - he/she might be interested in sports, music, nature, countries, etc. To be creative, to get a person really interested, to make lessons amuzing and what is more important - with humour. Hats off to individual approach :) I could write thesis on this issue but there won't be enough space in here :) I could be a teacher too but due to my personal awful experience I prefer not to.

Hi Bonnie,

Good to see you on this forum. It was about time we could add some Britney Spears lookalike talent to the english-test family .

hi Ralf,

yes, this is the avatar of Britney, though as I don't listen to her music (her music is very good, it's just that I don't like pop in general) I decided to place it here cause they say I resemble her very much (whether it is true or not I cannot judge myself, but when I was in Belgium, France people used to come up to me and tell it :) so Britney is a cool woman ;)

are you an English teacher too like everyone else as I can see in the forum? (except for most of the signed up users of course)

Hi Bonnie,

There are loads of English teachers registered here. You can identify them by their degree of ardent or at times missionary zeal when involved in discussions on language matters

Website promoter promotes a website - it is called seo technique so that it appears first on the first page in search engine results, e.g.in google. It results in a large amount of traffic (amount of visitos) hence much more products are sold on a website or whatever the purpose of a website is.

so as far as I understood, non-native English speakers cannot give advice?

You can give advice as well, no problem. You can be sure that you will be corrected in case your advice should not be taken on board :)

I don't know if it allowed to discuss things like this herу, but I've just read your biography and there was a song to listen to, you have a really great voice (though the music sounds a bit electronic). Hey people, listen to the song!!!

Hi Bonnie,

Yes Ralf has a German name because he was born in Germany. His father is German and his mother is Irish and I would say that he is "bilingual". He's pretty much got the best of both cultures -- German as well as Irish which makes him such an excellent language coach.

Speaking of bilingualism, I take it you speak Russian and Ukrainian as your native languages? In addition you speak English and SEL (Search Engine Language) so you are a real polyglott. It would be great to learn more about and from you. How did you get started with the SEO business and what languages do you optimize sites in?

Regards,
Torsten

Hi Bonnie,

Thanks for the praise. I used to record my song ideas with a pretty basic software so that it sounded like coming from a tin can. These days I'm using an Apple, and the Garage recording software on it is quite a professional device. Guitar simulation works quite well, too.

Maybe you feel like discussing your favourite music on this thread :)

Hi Torsten,

yep, I speak Ukrainian and Russian (native languages), also German, French, Dutch and Spanish (and English). In september this year I am going to China for 1 year so I will speak Chinese too soon :)

well, I started to learn SEO 2.5 years ago. When I graduated from the University I had to find a job, my profession is translator/interpreter, at that time I knew nothing about seo. I had been looking for a job for half a year until I was offered a place at an IT company, they needed a multi-lingual person for seo so I fit their needs. When they hired me they knew that I can speak only languages but I didn't have any knowledge concerning seo so I started to learn it at my working place. I read a lot, started to experiment, made mistakes for the first time and worked out my own marketing plans, etc. So that's how I learned it. On-page html optimization - titles, headings, etc. and off-page (I call it "marketing plans").

What about you? Which languages can you speak?

Ralf, thanks for info about Garage rec.software, I need it too.
