My dictionaries give no word "podest". I don't think anyone would understand it.
I'd have to see a picture to know what it is. A podium is a platform that people stand on when they're giving speeches. |

A Podest can be a landing. Sometimes it's just a sort of step or raised area. Sometimes it's a platform. Etc. I'd have to have the context to translate (or see a picture). . _________________ "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." ~ Abraham Lincoln |

Hi Torsten
In your opinion, does the "Podestfläche" include only the gray tiled area at the bottom of the stairs/steps? In other words, does it exclude the steps? If so, I think you can call it a landing. . _________________ "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." ~ Abraham Lincoln |

I don't think it includes the steps, but 'surface of the landing' looks like a possible solution. I'd say 'surface of the dais' comes close to what you're looking for, or simply 'platform surface'. _________________ Test of English as a Foreign Language TOEFL Preparation & TOEFL Vocabulary Learn more: How to Become an English Teacher |

Hi Amy,
Yes, the "Podestfläche" excludes the steps, so it's only the tiled area at the bottom of the steps. Would you agree with Ralf's suggestion? ("landing surface")
Thanks, Torsten

Hi Torsten
I'd say you can use 'surface' if the focus is specifically on the top layer or material used in the area of the landing. . _________________ "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." ~ Abraham Lincoln |
