Hi, how would you translate "Straßenmeisterei"? It's the German term for the authority that maintains the roads and highways in Germany. What do you call this organization in your country? Is it the "National Roads Authority", the "Roads Administration" or is there another term for it?

Thanks a lot,
Torsten

In the counties where I live, this authority is called the "road commission". At the state level it's handled by the Department of Transportation.

Hi Jamie,

Thanks a lot for this -- I think "road commission" is the best choice here because a "Strassenmeisterei" is responsible for the roads and highways in a county/region.

By the way, how does "road maintenance depot" sound to you? I've found it in the English version of the Wikipedia entry for "Strassenmeisterei".

Regards,
Torsten
