Could anyone tell me know which is correct and why?

In view of the additional adjustment for the account which would have impacts to the report, we do not ask him to sign the account.

In other words, what's the difference between 'adjustment to' and 'adjustment for'?

Hi Nessie,

The first sentence feels a bit iffy, I'd go with 'adjustment to'. You can have adjustments to all kinds of things

Hi Ralf,
Could you please be a bit more specific? I mean the difference between 'adjustment to' and 'adjustment for'. I think 'adjustment for' can still be used because I found this in the Longman Dictionary:
adjustment:
a small change made to a machine, system, or calculation
adjustment for
Once we make the adjustments for inflation, the fall in interest rates is quite small.
adjustment to
a slight adjustment to the mechanism

Hi Nessie,

You are right there.

If you 'adjust sth. for sth.', you modify it in a way to make it suitable for the needs of something, or have an effect on something else.

He adjusted his punch for catching his opponent on the jaw.

If you make 'adjustments to sth.', you make a small change to a mechanism/technique/theory etc.

The family made adjustments to their house to keep the mosquitoes out.

...

I'm not an accountant or a banker, so I can't give you the exact lingo here. But you can - to confuse you just that little bit more - make adjustments for/to inflation :)
