Something to say when you go shopping #1 (permalink) Thu Aug 21, 2008 19:19 pm   Something to say when you go shopping

Hi there,

I have experienced several times that when i go shopping in small boutiques or big stores like John Lewis, the salespersons may come to me and ask "Anything I can help?" even I have shown no sign for help.

At first, i thought maybe i have touched something that is not expected to be touched on or i have done something wrong that draws their attention, i usually don't feel very good with this sudden question. But I know it should be something merely due to courtesy, I just usually don't know how to answer them.. I usually reply with "No, thank you" with a sincere smile cause I'm afraid my answer sounds too direct and rude to the salespersons.

May I know in such case, how would you respond to the question?

Hi,

I'm sure you've heard them say 'Anything I can help you with?' or 'Anyway I can help?'

All you need to say is 'I'm fine, thanks!' and you'll be left alone. 'No, thank you' is fine as well, but less polite.

.
Most of the shoppers in stores in my area respond with something similar to "No, thanks, I'm just looking".
