I think vs. I'm thinking #2 (permalink) Fri Aug 22, 2008 8:25 am   I think vs. I'm thinking

Hi,

There is a difference. If you use 'I think' in a sentence like this: I think that the world has become a more dangerous place than when I was a child, you are stating your belief and that is a concept/an idea that remains all the time. On the other hand 'I am thinking' used in this conversation gives a different idea.

A I see you haven't answered my question. Why is that?

B I haven't answered because I am thinking.

In that conversation 'I am thinking' means at the moment I am giving your question some consideration/some thought and that's why I am thinking about it and that's what I am doing now.

Hope this clarifies.

Alan
