(d) Oh, you wouldn't will you?

Sarah: 'I would prefer to go by air.'
Paul: 'Oh you would, would you?'

Correct answer: (a) Oh you would, would you?

I would have thought that the right answer should be: Oh you would, wouldn't you?

Yeah, I agree with Guillermo. I thought the correct answer was "Oh you would, wouldn't you"

but it'sn't right to say you would would you because you said if the first part is negative the second part of the qyestion should be in positive.

Hi Tadagher,

Alan has explained why that 'rule' doesn't apply here in post #2. The affirmative is repeated for a specific effect. There are exceptions to many (most) rules which have to be recognised and dealt with accordingly... unfortunately! ;)

By the way, in your message I think you mean either:
it isn't right or...
isn't it right...

Because the original statement was 'I would prefer...', so 'Oh you would...' matches that form.

'Oh you did...' matches the form 'I preferred to go...'
