Hello ...
I don't know Ukraine, but I know some things about Chernobyl maybe for the BBC, I think it was something very unfortunate. I hope people there had been strong still today to go ahead and show themselves like a survivors. I think Ukraine is a cold city of white people like most of Russian cities and cities near the poles where people has a lot o traditions and customs that they enjoy.
Bye ...

Hello everybody. I am Valdemir, I live in Brazil, in the São Paulo city. We have different cultures and races here in Brazil. We has japonezes, Russian americanos, ingleses, Italian, German. Poles. Chinese. Finally people of the whole world live here in the São Paulo city
Therefore any type of food is easily found in the typical restaurants of each country.
The people here like to receive the people of other countries well.
As we cannot travel for the whole world, we have to speak of the habits and meal type.
If somebody intends to be a cook, here is there the opportunity to catch some revenue of some country.
Sorry, but I don"t know how cook very well, but I like to eat very well

Ukraine, I Love You... #144 (permalink) Wed Dec 23, 2009 6:16 am   Ukraine, I Love You...

Dear Instructor
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to pen my thoughts about beautiful Ukraine as part of our English course done interactively through this website. I am a sixty-two year old father of two boys from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, very interested in the development of the English Language over the years since 1955, my first year in a government-primary school in Singapore.
Frankly, I do not know much about Ukraine other than those reported in news items from the print and electronic media. The little I know is that it is a country with picturesque sceneries, beautiful women, high-kicking Russian cultural dances and Chernobyl. I remember the last very well because until today people never stop mentioning it and learning how to avoid accidents of that proportion. Can you recommend a good website on "UKRAINE - Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow..."?

Shaloooom everybody, Merry Christmas, guys and gals #147 (permalink) Fri Dec 25, 2009 2:11 am   Shaloooom everybody, Merry Christmas, guys and gals

Thanks alot Mr. Tosten, I am glad being in this forum again.

It is my pleasure to have anew friend, Victor. Hi Victor, I am from Indonesia.

To begin with, let me wish u a wonderful Christmas 2009 , may the joy of Christmas permeate our hearts and our souls

Frankly speaking, i know very little Ukraine, and I believe it is a wonderful new country in Eastern Europe. I just gleaned some from the wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukraine . Perhaps Victor can tell us more about daily lives there more vividly. Here is a little info about UKraine excerpted from Wikipedia , hopefully it can enhance our knowledge about this particular country, UKraine.

Ukraine en-us-Ukraine.ogg /juːˈkreɪn/ (help·info) (Ukrainian: Україна, transliterated: Ukrayina, [ukrɑˈjinɑ]) is a country in Eastern Europe. It is bordered by Russia to the east; Belarus to the north; Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary to the west; Romania and Moldova to the southwest; and the Black Sea and Sea of Azov to the south. The city of Kiev (Kyiv) is both the capital and the largest city of Ukraine.

Ukraine's modern history began with the East Slavs. From at least the 9th century, Ukraine was a center of the medieval living area of the East Slavs. This state, known as Kievan Rus' became the largest and most powerful nation in Europe, but disintegrated in the 12th century. After the Great Northern War, Ukraine was divided among a number of regional powers, and by the 19th century, the largest part of Ukraine was integrated into the Russian Empire, with the rest under Austro-Hungarian control. After a chaotic period of incessant warfare and several attempts at independence (1917–21) following World War I and the Russian Civil War, Ukraine emerged in 1922 as one of the founding republics of the Soviet Union. The Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic's territory was enlarged westward shortly before and after World War II, and southwards in 1954 with the Crimea transfer. In 1945, the Ukrainian SSR became one of the co-founding members of the United Nations.[5] Ukraine became independent again after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. This began a period of transition to a market economy, in which Ukraine was stricken with an eight year recession.[6] But since then, the economy experienced a high increase in GDP growth. Ukraine was caught up in the worldwide economic crisis in 2008 and the economy plunged. GDP fell 20% from spring 2008 to spring 2009, then leveled off as analysts compared the magnitude of the downturn to the worst years of economic depression during the early 1990s.[7]

Ukraine is a unitary state composed of 24 oblasts (provinces), one autonomous republic (Crimea), and two cities with special status: Kiev, its capital, and Sevastopol, which houses the Russian Black Sea Fleet under a leasing agreement. Ukraine is a republic under a semi-presidential system with separate legislative, executive, and judicial branches. Since the collapse of the USSR, Ukraine continues to maintain the second largest military in Europe, after that of Russia. The country is home to 46 million people, 77.8 percent of whom are ethnic Ukrainians, with sizable minorities of Russians, Belarusians and Romanians. The Ukrainian language is the only official language in Ukraine, while Russian is also widely spoken. The dominant religion in the country is Eastern Orthodox Christianity, which has heavily influenced Ukrainian architecture, literature and music.

Cordially yours,
Rudyanto

Hello again guys , I would like to share some amazing quotes from our legendary mentor, speaker and motivator , Jim Rohn, who just passed away on the 5th.of December 2009. However I believe his spirit and wisdom live on within us.

HAPPINESS

Learn how to be happy with what you have while you pursue all that you want.

Happiness is not an accident. Nor is it something you wish for. Happiness is something you design.

How sad to see a father with money and no joy. The man studied economics, but never studied happiness.

The greatest source of unhappiness comes from inside.

Happiness is the art of learning how to get joy from your substance.

Happiness is not something you postpone for the future; it is something you design for the present.
CHANGE/CHOICE/DECISION
One of the best places to start to turn your life around is by doing whatever appears on your mental "I should" list.

Indecision is the thief of opportunity.

Every life form seems to strive to its maximum except human beings. How tall will a tree grow? As tall as it possibly can. Human beings, on the other hand, have been given the dignity of choice. You can choose to be all or you can choose to be less. Why not stretch up to the full measure of the challenge and see what all you can do?

You cannot change your destination overnight, but you can change your direction overnight.

Decision making can sometimes seem like inner civil war.

Don't say, "If I could, I would." Say, "If I will, I can."

It doesn't matter which side of the fence you get off on sometimes. What matters most is getting off! You cannot make progress without making decisions.

We generally change ourselves for one of two reasons: inspiration or desperation.

If you don't like how things are, change it! You're not a tree.

I used to say, "I sure hope things will change." Then I learned that the only way things are going to change for me is when I change.

Don't say, "If I could, I would." Say, "If I can, I will."

It doesn't matter which side of the fence you get off on sometimes. What matters most is getting off!

You cannot make progress without making decisions.

We generally change ourselves for one of two reasons: inspiration or desperation.

If you don't like how things are, change it! You're not a tree.
