‘Ukrainian Folktales'(a story book) was my first connection with Ukraine's culture, beliefs.
Now what I read ,see is a very different picture than what I had after gone through that book.
Today Ukraine is coming as a one of the strong force in Europe, after being detached from Russia I think this is the most developed nation among such others ,often used as a model in my country for its achievements.

Thank u very much, Jamie! These are the best words I've ever heard about my native country from foreigner, especially about the Book of Revelation. They are true.

What did these Russian (or Ukrainian) phrases mean?
"два гомосексуалисты -- оден радиоактивный, другой радиопасивный"
"Как ваша фамилия?!" and he replied, "Ну, очень хорошо! Мама здоровая, Папа тоже. Як ваша? "

First phrase is little bit obscene, so I don't want to translate it. Here is the second:
A policeman has arrested one man and asks him:
-What's your name?
He answers:
-Thank you, I'm fine. My mother is OK and also my Dad. And what's your name?
It's a kidn of Ukrainian sense of humour  .

Good afternoon Victor,

I do not know much about Ukraine, but I heard that the country is big and it has a lot of gold, oil,... mines and the Prime Minister is beautifule rich women with long blonde hair.
One of my colleage had worked there before he jointed us. A lot of our students has been studied in Ukraine for the last time.
I think that the culture of the Ukraine people might be simillar with RASSIAN culture.

Hi Victor.
I'm afraid I can't give you my opinion on your country, because I don't know much about it.the only thing that I know is
that it got independent from the Soviet Union. And as you says that is a beautiful city , it must be.
Regards

Hi!

I'm a little bit disagreed with your explanation. Here is my point. :D

About the second joke:
A policeman barked "What is your 'familia'?"(He asked in Russian, 'familia' is 'surname' in Russian)
And a man(He is Ukrainian) answered: "Everething is fine. My mother is OK and also my Dad.."(Because 'familia' in Ukrainian sounds exactly the same, but have another meaning. it means 'family')

In another words.
A policeman say:"Kak vasha familia?" in Russian (meaning "What is your surname?" in English).
A man hears it like "How are your family?" in Ukranian.

Does somebody understand my ugly explanation? :D

Best regards.
Romashka

You are right, Romashka. The poignancy of this phrase is that Russian word "familia" which means "surname" in Russian, Ukrainians (especially western) can understand as a "family" .

Hello everyone. I'm also from Ukraine an would like to share my experience on how Ukraine is recognized in different countries by different people.

When I was in 1990 in New York, I visited the statue of liberty. If you were there you should know that it is situated on an island and you have to get there by boat. And a girl was there at that boat making her video on a camera-recorder during the short trip to the island. She focused her camera on someone of the fellow travellers and asked him or her where are they from. When it was my turn to answer the question she asked: "Ukraine? Where is it?". "It's near Chernobyl" I replied. Then she understood.

In 2006 I was in Germany: it was a business trip. When i checked in a hotel near Hamburg, the boy at the reception asked me twice where am I from. When I got home after the trip and starded writing a report for accountants I've noticed that I lived in the Hotel as a Hungarian citizen. :-)

Dear Victor :)
I know that Ukraine has its own language, which is very similar to Russian, however - although I can read Russian - I cannot read Ukrainian.
Best wishes :)
Lea1966, in my opinion Ukrainian language is much closer to Polish than Russian. It is very strange that you can read Russian and can't read Ukrainian.
