How to translate "gemeinnützige GmbH (gGmbH)"? #1 (permalink) Mon Sep 01, 2008 13:16 pm   How to translate "gemeinnützige GmbH (gGmbH)"?

Hi,

In Germany there is this particular company type. It's a limited (LTD) but with special tax conditions. The German original term is "gemeinnützige GmbH (gGmbH)". What would be a good English equivalent to this?

Many thanks,
Torsten

Non-profit limited company (non-profit ltd.)? At least I could google my idea...

Hi Ralf,

Thanks a lot for your answer. It seems that "limited non profit company" is more common than "non-profit limited company". Which of these two expressions sounds better to you?

Regards,
Torsten

Hi Torsten,

To tell you the truth, I haven't heard either. Maybe someone else will give you a more informed opinion.

Hi Ralf,

You probably haven't heard that term yet simply because this type of company doesn't exist in the English speaking world. So I guess "limited non-profit company" or "non-profit limited liability company" describes it pretty well.

Many thanks for sharing your thoughts with me.
Regards,
Torsten
