Please help me with a test... Here it is:
I too would ______ by the fire the whole afternoon but I was supposed to ____ the table
before the others ______ up.
a) have lied; lie; have turned;
b) have been lying, be laying; turned;
c) have lain; lay; turned;

Hi, Doriplesa

Just for your info:

lay - laid - laid (to lay the table)
lie - lied - lied (tell a lie)
lie - lay - lain (to lie in bed)

A bit complicated and contrived, isn't it ? ;)
