Hello and Help,
I have a one to one student (French) learning English - he's pretty good but confuses constantly the 2? conditional with would and could - no amount of explaining seems to ease his mind about this and he constantly gets the whole thing mixed up. Help any ideas on how to explain the difference between these two modals.

Conditional II trouble Tue Apr 05, 2005 21:37 pm  Conditional II trouble

Hi Ann, what part of the conditional II construction does your student have trouble with? I mean, in many cases you can replace would with could changing the meaning of your sentence but still forming grammatically correct sentences. To illustrate the difference between could and would you could create pairs of sentences containing one of the two modals and have your student guess the meaning.
Also, maybe you could give us examples of mistakes your students makes so we can suggest solutions?
Thanks
Torsten
