Hi,

A blot is often a stain or a mark as for example an ink blot where the ink from a pen has made a mark on the paper. 'Blotting paper' is used when people write in ink on paper and press the absorbent blotting paper so that the ink will be dry on the writing paper. 'Blot out' means to obscure as when a cloud passes in front of the sun and the light from the sun is said to be 'blotted out'.

Hello,

A blot as Alan wrote is a small area of ink. (This is as a noun). As a verb, it means to dry. For example drying a wet surface or writing that is done in ink by pressing something soft and absorbent against it.

e.g: She put her lipstick and then blotted her lips with a tissue.

Best wishes
