hello,
here are sentences: a. Supercooled water increases the rate of icing and is essential to rapid accretion. b.High altitude icing generally forms in tops of tall cumulus buildups.

I cannot tell 'buildups'and 'accretion'. Do both of them mean more in quantity?

Uh, yes, sort of. 'Accretion' is the process of the accumulation of particles or whatever, and a 'buildup' is the result of accumulating something in a location.
