Hi,

My lecturer had always leaved us with saying "cheerio", but I did not know the meaning, cause I did not know how it spelled neither did my classmates. Because She told us " look for it yourself" . So, many thanks for this interesting essay, I read it with great pleasure.

I don't know where to post this question. I have to translate something form georgian into english, I am not perfect, but try to do my best. I need your help. If I don't bother you, please tell me, how can I write shortly " country that follows justice, laws.. can I write "justice state"?

Thanks for everything.

Sincerely yours,

Tea

Hi Alan Townend,

How do you do? I’m A saying thank you for your lesson of “Greeting expressions”. Will you be the B who just grins and says nothing? lol Maybe "Fancy seeing you here!" is inappropriate to be used here. One of my friends is depressed and disappeared for a long time from a chat room. I’ll try my best to cheer her up if I see her again.
I have a question here. My friend said “I have to cut out now” when he was leaving. Is it equal to “I have to go”? Would you tell me what’s the detail situation to use this expression?

Thanks a lot,
Tracy

Alan,
you're the the driving force behind my quest for learning English here. As you can see, most of us are not native speakers but your lucid and succinct presentations have simply distinguished you as God sent, just to remedy our predicament as a class of learners in this Forum. "Well, hello" is a perfect piece. However, the recording should have been a little slower. please, this is only a learner's judgment.

Sincerely,

What are differences between " see you later" and " see you again? Two years ago, I met a new friend in a coffee shop, he came from Singapore, after greeting and talking about something I wanted to go home and said to him " see you later". He was suprised and asked me " Why? Do you want to meet me again?" . At that time, I don't know why he had said that, and then, he explained if I just said "good bye" to someone I should say " see you again", if I had a plan to meet someone in a pacific place or time I should say " see you later". Is it right?

Hi,

I hope I wasn't too late, I was just started to know how to use this forum.

Well, I just listened to an audio file " Well, Hello ". I think this is a very interesting essay. I went to London two years ago for a holiday, and I could hear everyone saying cheers. At first, I was confused because I thought cheers is a word when you raised your glass only, but I guess I was wrong. Then, I started to learn that UK people used that word for every occasion. So, I started to have fun saying cheers too even when I already return to my home town.

According to your question 'How sociable are you?', I think it depends on the other person too. If the other person is friendly, then I am friendly too. If they're not, so am I.

Please, feel free to correct my grammar and speaking skills.

Dear Alan:

Good morning! HAPPY New Year!

The speed of tape is so fast. I can only catch a few sentence. But I can read and comprehend almost total text. I am tend to unsocialable man. I can correctly use salutation words at appropriate situation.

Best Regards

I do agree with the fact that both in British English and American English people greet one another by saying "good morning", "good afternoon" and so on. But, how about Australians, who actually say "G'Day!" either when they meet or when they exchange emails?
Cheers!
