I'm sorry that you didn't see the forest for the trees. I don't think you took the time to notice that many of the test questions are in alphabetical order. However, they may not look like it at first glance because certain key words were lifted out of the phrases etc. so that students couldn't guess the right answer based on what letter the 4 possible choices begin with. Some are specifically not in alphabetical order because I don't want the students to guess the answer out of 2 possible "T" words in the choice selection, for example. I don't think that really benefits them in the long run. Also, I think only using four possible "T" words as choices for every question under the "T" category, for example, will take away from the fact that other word options that may begin with another letter will get the students thinking more. For example, "That was an unfortunate slip of the .......... I know you think she's stupid but did you have to blurt that out when she disagreed with you?" Rachel asked Vincent.
(a) teeth (b) brain (c) mouth (d) tongue
"Mouth" and "brain" are good options that will get the students thinking more than 4 "T" letter words. Because "mouth" and "brain" sound plausible, the students will learn that neither one of them is in fact the right answer and that's why idioms are tricky.
Having said that, your opinion was noted and I'll talk to Torsten and Alan about their opinions on this matter. _________________ One Way of Learning English Grammar

You're wrong about that, Linda. I did notice some alphabetization. And I also noticed that alphabetizing could not be done "willy-nilly". I brought up the idea as a possible means of reorganization -- a possibility to be discussed in more detail.
Unfortunately, your last post leads me to believe that any further discussion will be secret. That would be too bad. But I suppose it's better than nothing. . _________________ "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." ~ Abraham Lincoln |

No, no secrets Amy. I heard your opinions and this conversation is over now - and that is a good thing. _________________ One Way of Learning English Grammar

Ah, yes. Otherwise you might be asked even more questions.
You'll understand if I hang on to the hope that a change in that pile of tests might be possible. ;) . _________________ "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." ~ Abraham Lincoln |
