I read your story, and what a story, you are amazing! My name is Gabriela and I live in Valencia, Spain. I'm planning to go to Houston next year after I complete a pre-training course in teaching. I don't know if you are aware that there is something called Alternative Certification Program to become a teacher in Texas. The thing is that in order to start the pre-training course you need a Bachelor's degree and pass some tests called Thea Tests (previosly were called Tasp). Last year I found out about this program because there is a need of bilingual teacher in Texas. There are a lot of programs in community centers, and private academies like "Texas Teachers". I'm going to start the course with Region 4. I chose this place because I can do the pre-training course online. It takes like 4 months and after that I will have to go to Houston and take a test called Content Test and Bilingual Suplemental. I want to be certified as Bilingual teacher for children from preescool to 4th grade. After the pre-training and passing the content test I have to find a school who can sponsor me for a working visa. This is because in order to get certified I have to do 1 year training in a school. So, in short, you can be a teacher in 1 1/2 year instead of going to college for 4 more years. But if you are planning to go to UK I think there is a similar program but it takes 2 years. I went to London last summer to study a certification called CELTA to become an ESL teacher for adults. The course was very intensive but best course ever (1 month) and now I'm qualify to teach adults in a language academy. I hope my information helped you in case you want to continue teaching and need a certification.
