TOEFL essay: Compare and contrast your way of life with that of your parents #1 (permalink) Sat Sep 13, 2008 12:47 pm   TOEFL essay: Compare and contrast your way of life with that of your parents

Hi Alan,
I will apreciate any coments and if possible a score for my essay attempt!
Thanks in advance, Gaby

Compare and contrast your way of life with that of your parents. Which way of life do you think would be more satisfying to future generations?

Lifestyles of parents and their children usually are different in certain ways. In general young people tend to imitate some of their parents’ ways while others try to do the contrary. Off course there are similarities and differences between my parents’ lifestyle and mine. Some people think our parents have a better way of life because they are more methodic and organized and do things in a more healthy and relaxed way. Others believe our way of life is better because our generation is more creative and practical. Which way would be better for the next generation it is difficult to say. There are good things in boths ways of life and others that may change depending on the situations the next generations will encounter in the future.

One thing my parents and I agree on is the quality of food we eat. My mom is always buying healthy and natural food like fruits and vegetables. When I am with my parents we always eat healthy food and we always eat at a specific time. For example, luch time at my house is always at 2:30 pm. My parents are used to eat at the same time each day. But I don’t mind eating at a different times and sometimes eating a sandwich in a hurry to have more time to do other things.

Another thing my parents and I have in common is clothing taste. We like good quality clothes. We prefer to buy clothes from a respectable firm than lower quality pieces of clothes made in China. In contrast, my parents like a more conservative style of clothes and I prefer more fashionable and creative style of clothes.

Finally, we share our taste for sports. My family is very into sports and we love specially outdoor sports like tennis, trekking or walking, biking and swimming.
However, we have different routines and times to practice them. For example, my parents like to walk very early in the morning and I prefer to walk or ride my bike in the afternoon.

In conclusion, there are similarities and differences in actitudes in my lifestyle compared with that of my parents. Which one is better? I think there is no better or worst way but the way it works for you. Maybe the way our parents and I live is not the best for future generations. I would say to try to save the best of each way of life and adapt it to the conditions encountered in the future.
Very Happy
