iam just wondering how do we indicate an event that happens in 2 more weeks like

"we are going to zoo on next next friday?"

Hi Farop,
I'm afraid you may have misunderstood Seansu's question. It's on the next 2 weeks, not next week.
I think we can say 'We are going to the zoo on the Friday of the week following next week' or 'We are going to the zoo on the Friday of the week after next week'. However, these sounds so wordy and awkward, so we'd better wait for some native speakers' ideas :P

By the way, I wonder if we can say 'go to zoo' (without 'the')...

Many thanks,
Nessie.

Hi,

Today is September 14th (Sunday). Next Friday is September 19th. The following Friday is September 26th. I can either say I'm going on holiday on Friday 26th or I can say: I'm going away (the)Friday after next.

Have a nice day!!

Alan

And yes, you need the article before "zoo."
I'm going to the zoo.

Hi, all

Can I say these sentences:

Quote:
I will go to the zoo next week, on Friday
I told her I would go to the zoo the next week, on Friday

Thanks !

Hi Alex

You could use both of those sentences. However, the second sentence sounds as if it was said considerably after the first, and in fact the Friday in question may possibly be in the past now.

Hi Alan,
Have you any idea about my sentences? Are they acceptable at all?
And I also have some query about this:
I'm going away (the)Friday after next

1. I don't know why I find the sentence a bit strange without 'the' (I'm going away Friday after next)... And, what about this: "I'm going away on the Friday after next"?
2. If today were Friday, and the speaker will go away on the Friday of the week after next week, then I think it is all right to say "I'm going away the Friday after next", but what if today is not Friday (Tuesday, for example). In this case I think the sentence may cause misunderstanding, right? Have you any suggestion?

Hi Barb,
Suddenly I wonder how many other cases we can omit 'the' like in 'go to hospital', 'go to school', 'go to church' or 'go to market'. We can see that there are many places where people come for some particular purposes. People go to market to shop, so we can omit 'the' when talking about someone going to shop in a market. So back to our case here, mostly people go to the zoo to observe animals, so why can't we say 'go to zoo'?

Many thanks,
Nessie.

In the US, we go to the hospital and we go to the market. Perhaps in the UK, they go "to zoo."
