A language can be best learn´t by being really into the subtleties and the culture. Is the investment really the reward?

How much do you invest in learning a language?
And is it really a case that you need to just use it?

Languages can have a rust factor; ), but I think you can pick them up sometimes after a break.
I had one from German for nearly a decade.

Hi Amy

Nice you picked up the moniker for Danger Dave. I am in the modd to put forward a dangerous theory. Could there be a task whereby you do not communicate or use the language?

Is Danger Daves definition of a task too restrictive in it´s focus on usage/communication and not taking reflection as a task based learning exercise.

Any break for German is too short a break.

Are "communicate" and "use" polysemous in your mind? And, what is the difference between usage and use in your vocab bag? And more, what would this statement mean to you?

We need to find a balance between studying and using the language.

Quote:
Action and reflection: Task-based learning offers action and reflection. In contrast, rote learning is low in action and in reflection. Incidental learning, such
as occurs in on-the-job learning, is rich in action but may be low in reflection.
Classroom, or formal, learning is frequently high in reflection but low in action.

How much of Danger Dave's writing have you actually read, Stew?
