Support or endorsement

Is it possible to exchange the words support and endorsement in the following sentences?

The Prime Minister's statement didn't meet with the approval of his own party, but it received the personal endorsement of the US President.

Opinion polls show overwhelming public support for the government's actions, so they're unlikely to change policy now.

This word is more specific as it has the sense of something official as the verb endorse can mean sign as on a bank cheque but they can be interchanged in your sentences.
