Hello everybody, Last lesson I was asked to try to distinguish between "the weather forecast" and "the weather report". I have never thought over such a linguistic problem but I'd like to try my chance. In my opinion "the weather forecast" is a prediction what is the weather will be in the future and based on the observation, research, experience and scientific knowledge of meteorologists. While "the weather report" is a mere statement upon the actual weather phenomena that have just happened in a definite place of a definite region. Sometimes "the weather forecast" may differ from "the weather report" and, of course, "the weather report" is more accurate and depends only on exactness of observation and measurement. Best regards,

Hi Honey, I am glad we understand each other and I only expect you to be attentive with capital letters in your writing. But how about some opinions of native speakers? Are we right about the weather? You are welcome. _________________ An interested teacher, interesting lessons, interested pupils - these are three sides of a triangle named 'teaching'. |

Hi Effiong,
There are several answers to your question already on this forum, which are all perfectly valid. A 'forecast' is a description of what is likely to happen/will possibly happen and a report is an account of what has already happened.
