Please could you explain to me why "nature" here has a female reflexive pronoun? "Itself" would always be correct, wouldn't it? |

It's not femenine but neutral, take a look at this:
(pron.) The neuter reciprocal pronoun of It; as, the thing is good in itself; it stands by itself. |

In some cases nouns are referred to by the personal pronoun her. For example, when we talk about nature, the earth (which often is also referred to as mother earth), ships and abstract nouns such as love.
