Life's tough, wear a cup: This may be an advice to women or sportsmen.
Does this mean the cups worn by women or the protective cup by sportsmen?!

Soldiers in gear: in full readiness; police in riot gear; fishing camping gear; headgear. She wears the latest gear.

Drug ward: a ward where persons addicted to drug are admitted. The area in a city where you can get drug ?

Put the point across: normally it is get the point across and not put.
We, teachers, try to get our point across, but students don’t listen.
Sling around: I think this has been used in the sense ‘hanging around’.
I sling my coat over the back of my chair. (done in a careless and casual manner.)

To gloss up: to add shine

To bum out: do you mean ‘to bum around’ or ‘to bum’?
To bum around—to spend time in lazy manner; without doing any useful work
To bum—to get or ask for something without any intention of paying for it. Such people are ‘bums.’
To bum out may mean to leave without paying or doing one's duty.
