Dear all,
could you please help me with the following expression?
I found it in a newspaper: EU treaty 'may not keep UK's red lines'.
Does it mean control sth?
Thanks a lot!

Hi LuSeeYa

I assume that "keep the UK's red lines" means "accept/keep the changes (editing) suggested by the UK". The expression "red lines" is probably a figurative a reference to changes and/or additions marked in a text with red ink.

The UK's 'red lines'

The UK government has officially announced its 'red lines' for the summit talks this week, ie the points which it will insist on being met otherwise it will either require a referendum or refuse to sign up to the ensuing treaty (remember that no Member State can veto the decision to start talks at an IGC).

Originally, think it refers to drawing a red line on the ground. By drawing such a line, the "drawer" sets a limit which must not be crossed the people on the opposite side of the line.
