Hello everyone

I'd like to ask what does "going beyond what skeptics would call anecdotal evidence" refer to?

Actual demonstration of Spirit emanations, proof that they exist— going beyond what skeptics would call anecdotal evidence—has not been shown, at least not with the certainty that would persuade the typical natural scientist (physicist, chemist, engineer).

Does "going beyond..." refer to "Actual demonstration" and "proof" meaning that even anecdotal evidence of Spirit emanations doesn't exist?

Hi KLPNO

Anecdotal evidence of something is very casual, unscientific "evidence", often based on nothing more than someone claiming to have seen something.

Your text suggests that anecdotal evidence exists, but that skeptics/scientists need more than just anecdotal evidence in order to have actual proof. In other words, actual proof must be more substantial than (must go beyond) anecdotal evidence.

I agree, and here is a fine example of such evidence:

In BrE, the tag "right?" tends to be favoured by the slightly less sophisticated user. If the speaker is asking you to settle a genuine doubt, it isn't necessarily impolite; but elsewhere, it can sound a little "cocky".

Guess whose anecdotes are showing. Laughing
