Hi Nessie

The only thing that comes to mind is "the high scorer".

Hi Amy,

But there can be many high scorers, right? So what can the one whose scores is highest?

Many thanks,
Nessie.

Hi Nessie

I would interpret "the high scorer" to be one person -- the person with the highest score. The word "the" is important. If you used "a" instead, then I would understand "a high scorer" to simply be one of a number of people with a high score.

If I wanted to refer to the (group of) people with the highest scores, then I might say "the high scorers". Of course, I could also say "the people with the highest scores".
