Hi Torsten, I have Ubuntu installed on my PC. I had Fedora previously installed but Ubuntu is surely gaining popularity. It's handy but I still need to get used to it. |

Hi Pamela,
Thanks a lot for sharing your Ubuntu experiences. Did your PC come with the system or did you migrate it from Windows to Ubuntu? Also, how stable is Ubuntu and what about viruses?
Regards, Torsten

Hi Torsten,
I have both Windows XP and Linux(Ubuntu) installed on my PC. Most of the time I resort to Windows XP and sporadically switch to another OS just to make sure I can be quite proficient in using it later. Ubuntu is reputedly fine in every way and frequently receives positive feedback . |

I haven't used Ubuntu, but I'm interested in installing Puppy Linux on a flash drive and using that as my "portable" operating system.
Linux is getting more viable for more people, because there has been a huge improvement in open-source applications. OpenOffice is now almost as good as MS Office, and in a few ways it's better. IBM's reincarnation of Lotus Symphony works well too. For photo editing there is GIMP, and for sound editing there is Audacity.
You can now do almost anything with Linux and still be compatible with most of the world. |

hi guys
As a convert to apple and a user of open source when i had windows, Ubuntu has appealed to me.
Open office is really good and not patronizing like MS can be sometimes.
Neooffice (apple version) is a little more stable, and allows more format conversions.
Audacity and Gimp are also good apps, the former is all I really need audio wise, as garage band is just to much for what I want.
The open source is probably the way a lot of people will go. You may be interested in the discussions being held here:

| Stew, there's a new version of OpenOffice -- 3.0 -- that runs native on the Mac and sort of eliminates the need for NeoOffice. It even opens DOCX files. |

Hi all,
now, I was notified by my internet provider that I´m hacked. Means that some commercial twats (thank you , Oxford) must have hacked my e-mail accound and send spams from my ID. The only way to kick them from my hardware seems to be reconfigure my PC.
Till now, I used microsoft windows for administration of my PC. Now I´m thinking of having Ubuntu for administration programme. I´d like to learn about their opportunities.
Thanks beforehand

Hi,
I'm currently working in school here in Nordhausen and on some of their computers they have installed Ubuntu, a Linux based operating system. I've taken a look at it and so far I really like it. Have you ever heard about it or even tried it? If so, what do you think of Ubuntu?
Many thanks, Torsten |
Dunno anything about this Unbuntu Torsten but lets face it Vista was a straight clone of the Early Mac OSX But when the Leopard roars there's only one cat in town plus remember Macs don't get Virus's full stop period.

What do you think we'll be doing in five years Torsten?
Using a google version of Windows/Mac? (which are merging as we speak.) _________________ Any day you wake up on "the right side of the dirt" is a good day. |

Hi Jamie, in 5 years from now most of will be using Google Chrome, Android and Linux instead of Windows and/or Macintosh. Currently more than 60,000 Android cell phones are sold every singly day so in 5 years a large portion of the world population will be accessing the internet through an Android mobile device.
