TOEFL essay: Drug abuse: What are the consequences and possible ways... #1 (permalink) Tue Oct 07, 2008 21:03 pm   TOEFL essay: Drug abuse: What are the consequences and possible ways...

Drug abuse - a plague of urban society and rightly so which is gripping more n more youth everday around the globe. One of an alarming problems which is growing at a fast pace.I would hereby discuss the consequences of drug abuse and possible ways to deal this problem.

One of the main ill effects of drug abuse is addiction and health problems .Uncontrolled use of drugs mainly because of addiction people simply cannot quit the habit even if they are aware of their side effects .This leads to mental dependency and psychological problems .To name a few are hallucinations, anxiety, mood swings, headache and lack of appetite . All of this leading to more dependency on drugs n the cycle starts all over again.

Apart from health problems youngsters give up their education, careers and jeopradise their future .This could be blamed on lack of concentration and interest. Control over the brain is lost by exessive usage of drugs in uncontrolled amount .Also drop in retaintion power of memory can be attributed to the same.

There have been many poosible ways to deal with such a problem which is affecting the young and the restlees at such a wide scale.Ibelieve one of the first and foremost way to tackle the problem is to "catch them young".That is right the most vulnerable age group to drug abuse are teenagers if we counsell and educate about the consequences of drug abuse we cut the problem at its root.

Another way to deal with drug abuse is parents being more cautious .Parents should keep tab on their children by getting to know the company they keep.Parents tend to compensate their lack of quality family time by huge pocket money. This is one of the greatest problem of city life children get easy money and there is no parent to stop its misuse .

In my conclusion parents can be the key to deal with the problem of drug abuse by educating their child and pulling the right strings throughout their kids teenage.
