What's the meaning of 'to get to someone'? #1 (permalink) Wed Oct 08, 2008 10:37 am   What's the meaning of 'to get to someone'?

I've seen 'Prison Break' Season 4 Episode 7 ...

When Alex Mahone told Don Self the following:

'I've tracked down rapists, killers, even former military, but a structural engineer from Illinois was able to get to me.

What's the meaning of 'get to' in this context?

Thanks.

I think it means to say that a structural engineer from Illinois was able to affect Alex Mahone character emotionally, to bother or annoy him (probably because he couldn't catch the engineer).

Thank you 'diverhank' for your kind explanation.

In this case, it seemed that 'get to me' meaned 'affect me emotionally'.

But in other cases, does it also mean to 'affect emotionally and physically' as well?

i.e. to get to me and attack me (with weapon or something).

"The Mafia managed to get to him" can mean to "catch" "kill/torture" or "contact" him. It can also have the meaning that Diverhank suggested.

He tried to hide, but the eventually got to him.
