The essay is really great! It teach you a lot! I just wanted to add, as I have been living in New York for almost four years already, that American people are very friendly. For example, let's say, if you would push someone by mistake and didn't say "sorry" in the next second, you will hear it from the person you just pushed. And it doesn't even mean they feel wrong!!! |

Dear Alan, I have read the essay more than one time and I’m really confused. You start the essay by describing conditions where people used to say sorry or apologies. Then you immediately shift to describe different types of people (in different types of ranks) using such expressions (of apologies). Then you shift (for unknown reasons, at least to me myself) to describe the ways in which people pronounce certain words and how they swallow some letters all the time. Finally, you start describing certain phrases mixing metaphor to describe serious conditions or situations. Dear Alan, Pardon me but I think I need more explanation here, in order to comprehend the connection used in such style.

Hi Torsten, I’m really confused because it seems that I am the only person here whom I don’t understand the idea behind this essay. I am shocked. It seems that I do not progress in English at all.Sorry |

Hi Dear Alan, I really enjoyed reading your interesting essay, which contains a lot of useful information on the history of the language, the long and winding path leading up to the linguistics. As well,I thank you for taking us on a wonderful trip which took several centuries and also for showing us the strange changes of words on their itinerary. As the world is changing, the new words are being born.In fact, there is a mystery behind each word. I hope I didn't cause you to feel bored.SORRY about that! Best regards, Morteza |

AWESOME ESSAY!!
"Not only is it highly entertaining, but it is also useful and educational", as my English teacher would expect me to write...
Now seriously, you made me LAUGH reading the essay... I spent a really nice time with it. For me that's not just an essay to learn English... it's a piece of literature! I even forwarded it to some friends :)
Still smiling,
Ruth
* I apologise quite a lot, and I usually use the same expressions: "sorry", "I'm so sorry", and "excuse me" |

Hi Torsten I really enjoyed reading the essay, it shows me a lot of words with its meaning, and I think we need this kind of essay to expand our language, it's really a good chance for me to come across with a such essay. I will read it many times because it's an important essay. Best regards |

Hi Alen,
By saying this: "If you do that,..." in your essay, what do you really mean? I don't understand clearly.
