A very interesting essay Alan. I could understood certain words in it only with the help of the dictionary.
Thanks for this wonderful piece of information.

the first essay #77 (permalink) Thu Nov 12, 2009 11:44 am   the first essay

Hi, Mr Torsten and Mr Alan:
Thanks so much for sending this essay.
What i can learn from this is some english idioms describing how people accept their mistakes, errors, wrongdoings..Some words that i dont' know can be guessed from exciting illustrations of Mr Alan. But i think it's better to read the essay once more time and even more than twice to understand the whole thing. I think in the essay you are suggesting that language items that we've learnt must be selected to communicate in different context. That is goal that language learner aim at, isn't it. Once more time, thanks again for what you do to make this online course more attractive, interesting and useful for us.
Best regards,

Hi Hoamuahe, here are two suggestions I wish to recommend in your message;
1- "i" is a personal pronoun and should always be written in the upper case "I"
2- We write English not english

Thanks

Hi Sir,

Hope so you are hleping alot to learn your students in all the way, i think very soon i will be in a position to see, where i have been dreaming me, but i like to be more happy & gratefull towards you if you start teach us how to write a article of your own. Because each & every moment we are getting new words in english, which difficult to compete with others those who are well verse in english. I want to be advanced compititer, if you start taking class on article writing. As i told it demanding in our work also, which may be affect our work if we are not sound enough to be update with other compititer. I think you understand our requirment, hope from you that you will be taking step for this very soon.

I have just read Alan's essay and I think it was very interesting. I just want to say something about it. There was lot of new vocabulary for me. I had to use the dictionary but there were some English phrases that I didn't understand. However, I have developed new things in this forum with the students' comments; so; I hope apply this new knowledge in my learning process

Dear Alan,
I am very interested to learn Enlgish via English Stories. the book you have written is very perfect. but I am in Afghanistan very far from this book. since I am a student of English language i don't have enough money to buy it. there in Afghanistan we don't have your book. so if it's possible send me a soft copy of your book. it will be kindness of you.

Hi,
It was a perfect essay.
Most of the time I use 'sorry' for showing my regret or apologizing. But rarely I use 'pardon' when I want somebody to repeat his/her words.

I need to know what means "courtesied low" in this case
Reared in the old tradition, she courtesied low before Benjamin.

Thanks
