Hi Sawsan,

You can improve your English dramatically by changing your attitude towards the language. Treat it like a friend rather than an unwanted pet. Look at the way you spell very basic words and you'll see for yourself what your level is. The language you want to learn is English not english. The personal pronouns are 'I' and 'you' not 'i' and 'u'. Finally, please note the spelling of Alan's name.

In his latest newsletter essay Alan says that the phrase 'eating crow' is an American phrase and that he always strives for 'Transatlantic Harmony'. I pretty much wish Angela Merkel and Barack Obama will be doing the same -- striving for Transatlantic harmony of course. Anyway, Alan's essay contains a lot of interesting words and expressions such as 'numbles', 'apron' and 'an ewt'. At this point you might guess the topic of his essay -- it's saying sorry.

Now, how often do you apologize and what phrases do you use?
Regards,
Torsten
PS: You can read the essay here: I didn't mean to do that, honestly.

Hi,

The phrases: 'I mean that' and 'I'm really sorry' are acceptable in these sorts of contexts:

A What are you trying to say?

B I mean that you should not drive so quickly.

A I suppose you know about the accident?

B Yes, I'm really sorry that it happened.

Hi everybody! The essays that I have read right now was very funny. But it's seems to me that financial difficulty is not so big trouble for some countries. Last week I saw on TV that London and perhaps all GB got good profit in Cristmas week. Nevertheless I was very glad to read this text and I've known many interesting thing about "sorry" and "humble pie". It's very usefull to get information about idioms, becouse many people use it in their daily life.

Hi,

Let me explain - 'thereby hangs a tale' suggests: inside what I have just told you, there is something else that you should know. The expression is 'eat humble pie' and that means: show everyone and admit that you have made a mistake.
