I need advice for ETS TOEFL Reading section Wed Apr 27, 2005 16:01 pm  I need advice for ETS TOEFL Reading section

Dear Torsten,

I am really delighted by your email.I never expected such a wonderful reply from you.

I am preparing after my teaching classes such as listening BBC, CNN and watching english movies. I have watched almost 25 english movies.I think listening will be not a big problem or I can say I can score between 85% to 95% because I found one interesting thing in PBT i.e 30 short conversation. Its nice! I had practiced with volume 1 sent by ETS TOEFL and I did only 4 mistake in listening but can u tell me one thing why I am not confident about writing;sometimes I score 8 out of 10 sometimes 6. I am really afraid. Give me some tips for reading. Last time I couldn't finish on time otherwise i would have been now in School...this time I really dont want to miss the chance.Give me some tips.....

okay! would u mind telling me one thing? Are u from which county? If u really dont mind it!

Takecare.

How to improve my essay writing Wed Apr 27, 2005 17:28 pm  How to improve my essay writing

Hi Smita,

To improve your writing skills in a short period of time you can do the following: find a number of good TOEFL sample essays and read them out aloud. Even better if you record yourself on tape or MP3. Then listen to your recording and use for dictation - that means, you have to write down what you hear. If you do this for a couple of days you writing skills will improve and you will gain confidence.
Let me know what you think,
Torsten

You can get some useful information through these web links.

http://www.testmagic.com ( most authentic for Toefl students )
http://www.kaplan.com
http://www.toefl.org

Listening: Try listening to international news channels. Plus, there are a couple of informative channels such as Discovery and National Geographic.

Reading: Try to read university-level books. Plus, Internet is the best option.

Structure: Practice samples from Toefl books. Or Any grammar-related questions will be welcomed right here at this forum.

Writing: Make e-pals and start writing e-mails to them. Plus, you can check your essays by native speakers at the given links above.

BTW, I got good marks in my toefl just by doing so, just read, read and read. Preparation is not enough for getting good marks. It'll much depend how you cope with your nerves when you reach to a test center. Try to spare yourself from distractions around you. Be focused and relaxed. Remember, have a good sleep and a good breakfast before the test is essential. There'll be no interval.

Try to get input as much as you can, this will provide your brain with the necessary information to use it when the time comes to write. I assure you will do it naturally with complete confidence.

I hope it helps bye........
