in this case i am just telling somebody which is my favorite animal..so i do not know if "the" is appropiate..
if you were me, what would you use:
hi class...my favorite animal is a horse. or My favorite animal is the cow.

Both versions are appropriate:

My favourite animal is a horse - this is the type of animal that is my favourite.
My favourite animal is the horse - this is the species of animal that is my favourite.

Use either in this context. They are both equally correct.

What is not correct is your use of a lowercase 'i' when you mean the pronoun 'I'.

Hi,

The difference between 'a horse' and 'the horse' in your sentence is that 'a' simply refers to one animal that you favour. By using 'the' you isolate the noun and use it as a representative - almost like stressing its significance. Using the plural 'horses' requires no article at all.

Let me know if that helps.
