Two reasons I can think of for 'while' being the correct answer are:

1. 'While' has the sense of 'during the time that/at the same time that' and therefore fits in the sentence.

2. 'For' and 'during' could not be used with the second clause as it stands, as these words are normally followed by a noun.

i think that while is followed by a complete clouse while during is followed by noun or gerund
