Simple Present with everybody/everyone #1 (permalink) Wed Oct 29, 2008 21:14 pm   Simple Present with everybody/everyone

Hi everybody,

could someone explain to me why I must add third person singular -s if talking about everyone? After all, everyone is meaning a group of people, so definitely not he/she/or it!

Thank you for your help!

Simple Present with everybody/everyone #2 (permalink) Wed Oct 29, 2008 21:22 pm   Simple Present with everybody/everyone

Hi Sarahz,

Welcome to english-test.net and many thanks for your interesting question. The pronouns 'everyone' and 'everybody' mean 'every person' grammatically speaking 'everybody' is the third person singular.

Hope this helps.
Regards,
Torsten
