Difference b/w understand and understood #2 (permalink) Thu Oct 30, 2008 5:39 am   Difference b/w understand and understood

"Understand" is the base form and can be the present-tense form, except with "he", "she" and "it" as the subject.

"Understood" is the simple past form and the past participle.

You can find examples in basic grammar books.

For the below topic, My question is when we can use "Understand" or "Understand" in conversation , let us take an example if A teaches on some topic to B then B has to reply it like " I Understand" or " I Understood".

B would say, "I understand." If he said, "I understood," it would mean that he used to understand but doesn't anymore.
