So what is the correct pronunciation of 'herbal' and 'herbs' -- with or without the 'h'? I mean, is 'h' a silent letter in those words?

Thanks,
Torsten

Good morning, Torsten.

I don't pronounce the "H" in either of those words.

However, I do know someone whose name is "Herbie" and he would find it odd if I didn't pronounce the "H" in his name.

Hi Torsten,

I would sound the 'h'. Good practice for that letter is:

Harry went to Hampstead Heath. Harry lost his hat. Harry's mother said to Harry: Harry, where's yer hat? Hanging on the hook in the hall but it wasn't there at all!

Oddly (or maybe not, considering who's posting this), I sometimes use the BrE pronunciation and sometimes the AmE one for this word. That's what 20 years in Canada will do.
