There is NO validity to the "rule" that says you should not end a sentence with a preposition. None!
How would you write: Which book did you read to her from? You'd have to say things like "What was the book from which you read to her?" - akward and awful
"She's the girl I came with" would have to be "She's the girl with whom I came." |

I think Churchill said it best:
"This is the sort of bloody nonsense up with which I will not put." (or something to that effect)

I agree with Barb. English sentences end with prepositions on a regular basis, and blindly trying to avoid this leads to awkward sentences. |

Ok..friend..we can agree that English sentences can be ended with a preposition. But I strongly confident that English sentences can not be ended with any conjunction. Is it ok..?
There is a famous quote from our C.N.Annadurai (Orator and the ex-chief minister of Tamilnadu, South India) which goes like this: " you can not end a sentence with 'because' because "because" is a conjuntion.."
Can anyone give me enough reason to accpet or denay this..?

A conjunction joins things together. Why would you end a sentence with the thing that joins it to something else, and not include that "something else" that is supposed to be attached?
(Of course, you can cheat and end your sentence using the conjunction as a noun as in "the word 'because' " but in that case, it is not functioning as a conjunction.
You can also cheat by using an ellipsis. ("I will tell you where to find the treasure," he said with his dying breath. "It's midway between the double palm tree and... ." The sentence was never finished, of course, because he died, so we spend the rest of our lives digging around every palm tree we saw.) |
