. 1. This time tomorrow I will be singing at the club. 2. By the time they open, she will be shopping in a different store. 3.I will be speaking with Mr. Smith by the time you arrive. 4.Harry says he won't be waiting for you if you arrive late. 5. I will think about your offer.
In numbers 2 and 3 I chose future continuous because I learned that the connector 'by the time' is often used with such tense.-- That is a good guideline.
#1 is continuous for the same reason- the meaning is 'By this time tomorrow'.
#4 only makes sense with the continuous: if the person 'won't wait', then he won't be there for the late arrival; therefore, he must be still 'waiting', or in this case 'not waiting', which are durative activities.
#5 is a simple statement of fact; no other activity is mentioned during which 'thinking' might occur. . _________________ Native English teacher at Mister Micawber's |
