My name is Anastasiya. I am from Russia, Saint-Petersburg. I am biologist. I have been learning English for many years, at first at school and then at the University. For two years I took part in creating Beilstain database of biological active substances. I had to read biological articles in English and to make a sort of abstracts from them. Also I had to read articles concerning my scientific topic. I study the organ of the immune system which is called thymus. You know, I suppose, it’s an organ where T-lymphocytes develop.
Now I have no practice in English as I am finishing my PhD. And I am appalled to realize how quickly I forget everything.
How many mistakes have I already made in this text, I wonder?
I need English for my future work, for my career of biologist but I also dream to speak it fluently to broaden my horizons. I am interested in British culture and literature. Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, Kipling, Thackeray and James Herriot (!) :) – I have loved their books from childhood. I would like to speak with people who belong to this culture and I would like to speak with people of other cultures. I dream to work and to travel in different countries.
