Difference between "on sale" and "for sale" #2 (permalink) Wed Nov 12, 2008 11:20 am   Difference between "on sale" and "for sale"

Hi Mwewa,

If something is 'on sale', it means that is is being offered at a reduced price, lower than its normal selling price. This would typically be a product that a store regularly sells, but is offering a discount in hopes of selling more of the product.

If something is 'for sale' it means that it's now available to be sold, although it wasn't before. This typically is something that an individual owns, who wishes to get rid of the item because it's no longer needed or wanted by the owner.

Hope that helps.
