Well... to tell you the truth, I think it's not a good idea. When students enjoy themselves in class, they only remember the funny moments but it doesn't guarantee that students learned. Perhaps I say that because I am moody but it's my opinion.

I everybody.
Express humor it´s not easy labor, but by a sheet of paper, I think it´s so hard. Anyway I liked very much, especialy some guys that manifested their joke side.
On the other hand, on the lesson there is a word that make me confused : I think the King, he added one PROVISO not provison as it´s written:
He added one provison however and that was if the young man put himself forward and failed, he would be soundly flogged (whipped).
Excuse me my poor English and if I did right writing about.
Cheer.

I am usually doing everything seriously. However, sometime I can make other people laugh because I want it.

Using laughter in the classroom #113 (permalink) Thu Sep 10, 2009 19:34 pm   Using laughter in the classroom

I use humor all the time!! Whether it's a play on words or my performance while I present a dialogue (I used to be an actress), I hardly ever fail to get my students to laugh. Of course they know that learning English is a serious matter, but I find that they pay more attention to me cause they don't want to miss something humorous that might happen!

A TV GUIDE #114 (permalink) Thu Sep 10, 2009 19:39 pm   A TV GUIDE

One of the sheets I use is a 'tv guide' from the BBC; and one of the programs listed is: "A Comedy: Don't Ask Me." So, I ask them: What's on at 6:00? And they respond: A comedy. I cut them off and ask them: What's the name of the comedy? And, of course, they respond: Don't ask me. And a bit 'annoyed,' I ask again: What's the name of the comedy? And again they respond: Don't ask me. Usually by the third time someone 'gets it' and starts laughing and the others ask the student what's so funny and he/she tells them and then the whole class starts laughing. It works every time!

There was a Russian employee from our company who returned from
Seattle and asked me why there were so many shops selling nails (for
construction) in the city. I couldn't grasp the question and only then I
understood it. "NAILS" had the second meaning (fingernails)!!! This is the
true story!

In Hebrew the word for 'liver' and 'heavy' are the same: kaved. So, the joke goes: An Israeli walks into a restaurant in the U.S. and orders a plate of heavy! My students like that joke cause they aren't native-Hebrew speakers, but Russian speakers!
