Hello, everybody.
I often tell anecdotes to my students (of course, I try to attach them to the topics of our conversations), and this distinguishes me from other teachers, so my students parodied me in their video presentation. I was laughing while watching the presentation, but at the same time I felt a bit confused. On the one hand, I am popular among my students, on the other hand, I wonder if I tell too many anecdotes?

A good joke makes you feel happy and positive. Humour creates sunny and friendly atmosphere, reduces stress and tension in the classroom and the process of learning becomes enjoable. Of course, it's great if a teacher has a good healthy sense of humour and tries to avoid sarcasm and inappropriate jokes.
And here are some real notes from real parents:
Please excuse Burma. She has been sick and under the doctor.
Please excuse Jimmy for being. It was his father's fault.

One should have a sense of humour to develop oneself and surrounding for healthy environment. I like cracking jokes when time and environment demand. For me it depends a lot on people whom I am spending time with. I prefer to comment humourous statements when a person with me is in great mood and response my comment in the same manner. But having a sense of humour doesnot fall you behind at any cost infact help always.

thank you for all your essays;I agree with you on the point that we should use humour in lessons, with high-grade students ,anyway;I always try to make people laugh when I am with my friends ; they appreciate my 'company';
the problem is that I Live in Algeria ;therefore, I can't buy your e-books ,as our money isn't a hard currency.
SORRY!

Dear Torsten,
Thank you very much for your lesson via email.
I have a question to you, can you explain for me?
I don't known when we use no and when we use not in the sentence.
For example: I have no money, I am not a woman, ...
Can you help me?
Thanks,
Tan. Very Happy

Once, during a very cold winter we had English classes in a big classroom which had a small heater. On the teacher's question: is the heater on? one of the students answered: It is, but it heats itself.

How Humorous A Person Are You? #26 (permalink) Tue Nov 18, 2008 9:22 am   How Humorous A Person Are You?

Hi Torsten,

As the saying goes" A Merry Heart Doeth Good Like A medicine" - A person who

laughs frequently is a healthier person emotionally and physically.Laughter helps to

release stress when work pressure is mounting up and meeting datelines. Moreover,

one will have less wrinkles on their faces and will look younger. Maybe,he/she is

happy and not worrisome. Maybe that person can take things lightly.

I like to watch good funny movies that makes me laughs until my stomach churns.

but I dislike watching slapstick jokes movies or listen to slapstick jokes.

Nevertheless, i had attended a seminar that made all of us laugh until the whole

session ends.I had enjoyed the jokes and it was entertaining. There was not a boring

moment. But, sad to say,I couldn"t get the points that the speaker wanted to deliver.

i remebered the jokes vividly.

I realize that I need to balance out where my students could understand the

English lesson and put in some funny moments or jokes to liven up the English

atmosphere. It helped the students to be more relaxed and also fostering a closer

rapport with the students.

Regards,

Lee

Humourous story #28 (permalink) Tue Nov 18, 2008 21:11 pm   Humourous story

Laughing

Talking about being humorous;
I have a biology teacher who during the course of his teaching on spelling and pronounciation from the subject "animal biology", told us to pronounce the name of an animal called, HIPOPOTAMUS as he wrote the name of the animal on the board, but no one could pronounced it. He became angry and being a stammerer, he tryed in that anger to pronounced it, it is like this, HIP- HIP- HIP.... and the entire class shouted HURRAY. he said No, NO, NO, I want to pronounce it for you, OK? The class said Okey, The teacher started again, HIP-HIP-HIP.... and the class said again HURRAY.
That was the most humorable thing I have ever witnessed.
Thank you so very much.

Dear Mr Torsten; I do agree with you about smiles. There isn't anything better than seeing a smile on one's partner's face. It's - for me - the best message of peace and confidence. I got a joke and I hope it wouldn't be so boring!
teacher: what is the longest word in the English language ?
little Johnnie: Smiles, sir !
teacher : how can that be ?
little Johnnie: cause between the first letter and the last one, we can run the mile !
bye for now and cheer up ! hope I wasn't that boring!
