OK, Borislav.
I agree. It is quite better if you can see the gestures of the storyteller. I only wanted to give an example only amusing the readers here. Never mind! And concerning the "tendance to be dirty": I think it also depends on the teller, the listeners and the situation. And there are always people who care, and at the opposite people who never care. Some have bad feelings, some not.
I didn't know the difference between Russian funerals and weddings yet. And it is easy to imagine it... Thank you!
The following joke is one for German English learners, easy to tell it during courses in Germany:
A German spending some days in England walks into a restaurant and orders a beefsteak. He is waiting and waiting... nothing happens. At last he is getting angry, and he begins to shout: "Waitress, come here, please!" "Sir?" "When shall I become a beefsteak?" "Never, I hope, sir", she replies.
(For No-Germans: The German word "bekommen" means "get, receive", and so it is an easy misunderstanding.)

Best wishes,
Andreas

Hey Andreas,
Perhaps if I tell you dirty joke, whatever gesture I make it won't be very amusing for you though we are absolutely different age.Today I told my father a little bit dirty joke and he watched at me very firmly. If I had told the same joke to a friend it would be different.
Can you tell us some more german jokes ?

One translated, here is very famous :
Customer : I want one Fanta Barley
Waiter: Fanta Barley ? There is no Fanta Barley ..
Customer : Oh .. I mean beer :>

Hi Good afternoon,

I perfer to stay with one with joy and lauhgter. It is a common that most of people like remembering and cherishing the happiess and try hard to forget sad events in their lives. Laughter could make a person to be more relaxing and expresive of his or her emotions. Laughter could light up diffcult situations that may arise in the group. Laughter is a hope for hardship. Laughter is soul of language.

Hi Alan,
I read your jokes. They actually put a smile on my face. I think it's a good one. There is this joke someone once told me. It is about a boy who went to sunday school on a Sunday. Before he left, his mother told him to come straight home after the service to which he agreed because he feared his
mother. At the sunday school, the teacher described a vivid image of what heaven is like which made all the children desirous of going there. After the day's class, the teacher asked the children if they would like to go to heaven. All the chidren in the class raised their hands except this little boy. Then the teacher walked up to him to find out why he refused to raise his hands like the other kids. The following conversation ensured:

Teacher: Hi dear, Is there any problem?

Boy: No sir, there is no problem.

Teacher: I noticed that you didn't raise your hand like the other children
in the class when the question was asked.

Boy: Yes sir, I very much would like to go but I did not
because my mother said I should come home immediately after service.

Laugh makes our life more simple and less stressful. I believe that people with good sense of humor overcome all problems and misunderstandings in their life easier. Maybe they are even happier. Or maybe they have a good sense of humor because they are happier:}. Anyway, let's laugh from the hearts!:}

Dear TOrsten,

i agree with you,
i like humor,
however, sometimes i feel bit lost on translation,
when i was watching english movie, or people were trying to make a joke
like what you have mentioned before,
it's because we have different cultural background.

Tks

Hello to you all! I live in a city that is known as "The Land of Humour", Fortaleza-CE, Brazil. So here we laugh for anything, for things that normally are not funny in other parts of the same country, we laugh... If someone is walking by and for accident he falls on the ground we laugh, if a passing car splashes water over you we laugh. Here it is sold a lot of joke books and we have dozens of professional humourists, that are persons especialized in making people laughing. These humourists are in general dressed like the court jester in the middle age and they make shows at steak houses...

How important is humor when learning a language? #163 (permalink) Wed Mar 17, 2010 14:38 pm   How important is humor when learning a language?

Hi Dear Alan,
Thank you so much for nice stories and lot of new expressions. I had no idea how many words for laughter in combination might give a different phrases or expressions. I really laughed my head off while reading your story. You ask iwhether i'm humorious or not? Well, the people who are communicating me say : It's nice to speak or listen to me ,cause I often use healthy ( unharmful jokes) in the conversation. Same like you, as you mentioned above, you dont rarely use the jokes during the class. Either do I.

Hi Torsten,
Humor and laugher are important for people. These two things are the best medicine for us. Its make us happy and live longer. I think English teacher should use humor in the classroom. By making this, students can get relax and easily to keep what their teacher teaches. As for me, I haven't a good sense of humor. But I want to be. I don't know how to create it. But whenever I hear the laugher story, I laugh a lot. I love it.
Best Regards,
Maw Maw Win.
