Hi Alan, I`ll join discussion about laught with pleasure. Of course, laugh is important thing, making our life easier and happier. But the same time it`s very difficult to make someone laugh nowadays. The world becomes too nervous and stressed for more of us, especially for the people living in big sities. There is no time for jokes, laugh and entertain. There is no mood for that, with all the threads, surrounding contemporary man. But I really believe that the laugh could make me better person, laugh is the perfect way to relax and to be happy at least for awhile. And sence of humour is sign for our intelectual level, I think. Angry people are those who didn`t know that the world is wonderful itself. We should treasure every second of our life, just for the sake of our own happiness and for the sake of others, of course. And again - laugh is a little step to our happier life, isn`t it?! And last but not the least humour is what make the people close and wormth the relationship between them.
P.S. Sorry for the mistakes I`ve made, but I`m waiting for you to correct me Regards : Ivanina |

Hi everybody,
It's very hard to estimate yourself, and say how humourous you seem to be with others,,,as , every person has sense of humour, but everyone cant express it..i think, that i have a great sence oh humour and can make others laughing... :)so,i dont like strict persons, lecturors and can't attend to their lectures. :(cause it's very hard to listen a teacher, with very serious, dully face.. I cant learn anything in such situation,....but in case of a bit laugh, a lecture seems more interesting and you listen it too.
thank for your interesting lectures, Tea |

Hi Alan!
I'm very impressed when reading your essays; In fact I like them very much and I keep on learning from them. As to humour, I think that humour is essential in language teaching. As a language teacher, I sometimes use it to make the class lively and attract students'attention. Of course, too much of it will be a risk: the lesson objective might not be reached.
Thanks a lot DOUEU |

Hi Emil,
Can you give me the sentence in which you have seen 'serves' and I will try to explain what it means.

A bit of a laugh (English essay 2);Pa: You're late. Johnnie: I was kept in for half an hour after school by the geography teacher. Pa: You mean you've been a naughty boy. Johnnie: Yes. Pa: Why? Johnnie: I didn't know where the Azores were. Pa: Serves you right. Aren't I always saying you'll get into trouble one day for not remembering where you've put things?
thank you alan for your prompt aid |

Last year I attended to an english course and had several teachers with different ways of teaching and I'm sure that the one who helped me the most was an American woman. Her lessons were always funny and were able to keep up my attention and stimulated me to be amusing too in my writings and dialogues. But I'm sure that being funny is not always profitable. I remember another teacher a Scotsman, who was a very brilliant man, but didn't obtein with me the same results, probably his kind of humour was so different from mine that, as it was not easy for me to understand, many times I finished to lose heart rather than being stimulated. |

hello, good day it's vital to try and use a kind of humor .I think it can be used in language learning
From my view when I used to releave tension and work-stress from my colleages , if I didn't get at least one chuckle/laugh/ during day-work, I felt its heavy day. thanks alot rafid |

"Serves you right" is a phrase that means "you've gotten what you deserved"
Tom: Look at my hair! It's all messed up! Jerry: Serves you right -- you shouldn't go outside on such a windy, rainy day. _________________ Billie Jean is not my lover. Hee. |

I am warned that I should have posted at least 5 mails to the forum in order to mail you on private. But I am short of time for the matter and writing to u directly here.I have been Erasmus coordinator at the faculty for a year and have trouble with exchanging students because of the foreign language assesment tests especially IELTS.Here in the site we have no test with the name. Amost all communication faculties ERASMUS programme require either TEOFL or IELTS !!.ı In Türkiye we have a lot of such test books in the market but they cost too much for the students so they can not afford them. Toefl requires some amount of fee for the exam,TOO.
I think online test application could help them have some exprience about. Now please help me what to do for my undergarduate students on the matter, what would you advise me to? |
