Took the GRE® today! I scored 320 on the Verbal and 320 on the Quantitative...

Well I took the GRE today and I scored 320 on the Verbal and 320 on the Quantitative. I knew I was going to score low on the Quantitative, but didn’t think I would score so low on the Verbal. I did not study for the exam like I should have. Luckily, the school that I applied for only required my GRE scores good or bad. However, once I have completed my Master’s if I ever decide to apply for a PhD program I will have to score at least 1000. Back to the drawing board for me in GRE prep!  One interesting tidbit about the exam happened after I completed my first essay. I had to use the bathroom all the sudden and raised my hand. The lady never came so I just held it the thirty minutes for the second essay. Needless to say, my second essay probably wasn’t as good as my first! I went back and edited at the end and ran out of time trying in the middle of typing my thesis sentence. Hopefully the test graders will figure that I ran out of time at that point and won’t deduct too much for that that!

I wonder how many other people who had high undergrad GPAs score as low as I did? I wonder if one reason I scored so low was because I never took the SAT test for my undergrad. I wonder if the other college that I applied for a possible second Master’s degree is going to wonder if I cheated on my undergrad since my GPA was so high and my GRE was so low. lol Glad to hear that everyone is scoring well on the exam! I think I might sign up for a GRE prep class at the college next to me.

Yes, that happens sometimes. I had a high GPA and low score on the first time (but not as low as yours -- it was only 920). I retook the exam recently and had 1230. That is not bad but enough for my planed Ph.D. As Nil recommended, setting for it again won't be a waste of time but would be waste of money if you don't prepare this time also ^^

you def need to take more timed practice tests and take CATs. the paper based tests are good for practice problems, but you need to registre for a course or buy a book that comes with a cd with computerized tests. that's the best way to de-stress your self imo. i'm going to take it again after getting a 1120 (600 math, 520 verbal) I think my problem was that i just took a bunch of simple paper based practice tests and the real thing was so much harder and scarier on the computer!! I found a blog that explains som math problems indepth really well and has *pictures* for the geometry qeustions, its gmatgremath.blogspot.com. for the verbal, i recommend the kaplan verbal books because they have the hardest words. but seriously, computer practice tests all the way. good luck!
